So it goes. by Sairobi So it goes. by Sairobi
Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, “It might have been.”

Steve is half-serious when he tells Bruce that he’s sixty years behind on his reading, but it’s still a surprise when Bruce dumps a pile of books on his lap two hours later. Steve holds one up, confused — they’re all by the same author. Bruce just smiles and says he thinks Steve’ll like them. They’re about the war. Sort of.

Later, he’ll think that’s a roundabout way to put it. Later, he’ll suspect that they weren’t chosen on their historical or literary merit; that Bruce knew he’d understand what they say about the human heart, and what it means to become unstuck in time.

Slaughterhouse-Five, Cat's Cradle (source of the quote at the top), and maybe the Sirens of Titan? The last little bit specifically refers to Billy Pilgrim in Slaughterhouse-Five, who becomes "unstuck in time". :)

Thank you!! The little caption story up there is alluding to Kurt Vonnegut, specifically Slaughterhouse Five. (I also think Steve would like The Sirens of Titan and Cat's Cradle.)

You're welcome :)
I am actually looking at the books that you mentioned on Amazon and want to get them (despite the fact that I have yet to read four other books *sweat drop*)
